Principal’s Message
Nestled in a rural setting
on the outskirts of metropolitan Columbia, Batesburg-Leesville Elementary School is an outstanding environment for students, faculty
and staff. Parents here are involved in their children’s educations and
establish at home many of the values and skills that students need to be
successful at school. Faculty and staff
work together as a team to provide a nurturing, yet academically rigorous,
environment for students. While students are here, BLES is a great place to be.
When they move on, they are prepared for the world beyond!
Mission Statement
Working together with
students, parents, guardians, faculty, staff, and the community,
Batesburg-Leesville Elementary School will establish and maintain a strong foundation for
lifelong learning by nurturing, challenging, and guiding all students toward
their maximum academic, career, technological, artistic, physical, social, and
emotional potential in a safe environment.
School Facility
Batesburg-Leesville Elementary School was originally housed in a circa 1905 building that
is now the Lexington Three School District Office. In 1996,
Batesburg-Leesville Elementary School moved to its current location at 403 South Lee Street, Batesburg- Leesville, SC. The school is equipped with 35 classrooms, three
computer labs, a science lab, a multipurpose room, an efficient office area, a
roomy cafeteria with a modern kitchen, and a complete media center. The
building and 37-acre site are designed to accommodate future growth by means of
extending two of the school’s three wings. With ample space, this
facility allows BLES to expand opportunities for children and gives faculty and
staff a conducive atmosphere in which to work.

Student Testing
Students
at Batesburg-Leesville Elementary School participate in our state’s
testing, Palmetto Achievement Challenge Test (PACT) in the spring. PACT is
based on South
Carolina’s
curriculum standards in the areas of English Language Arts, mathematics,
science and social studies. Students may score below basic, basic, proficient
and advanced on this assessment.
Students
at BLES also participate in Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) at least twice per
year (fall and spring). MAP is a norm-referenced assessment that allows a
comparison between our students’ scores and scores of students all over
the nation. Teachers and parents are able to use MAP results to gauge how
students are progressing in each of the skill areas of English Language Arts
and mathematics. This helps us to better meet each student’s individual
learning needs.
